Technical and Community College: Advanced Technology & Learning Center Design

ICB was selected for the design of the specified A/V systems for the Technical and Community College Advanced Technology and Learning Center. The $1.6 Million audio-visual and technology portion of the construction project includes the Culinary Institute presentation room/classroom, an auditorium/lecture hall, Pro Tools digital audio production studio,  and a video production studio. The design also includes a sophisticated Crestron Control System. Each location comprises a unique and advanced audio-visual system.

Culinary Institute Presentation Room Classroom Design

The Culinary Institute presentation room/classroom is a multipurpose room designed to support presentations of food preparation ranging from small group instruction to 200 seat audience presentations. This location includes interactive teleconferencing, S-video quality recording capabilities (5 remote, 2 fixed cameras), projection screens, video monitors, video conferencing, tie lines and wall panels for remote audio recording and live broadcast capabilities. All A/V is controlled by Crestron Control Systems panels located at the instructor workstation and the kitchen counter. There is also a kitchen presentation control room on the second floor, featuring a Crestron Control Panel. The room also includes a sound system with wireless microphones, podium, intercom, and a wireless ADA hearing assist system that can accommodate up to eight users

Auditorium/Lecture Hall Design

The Auditorium is a multi-use facility intended for lectures, multi-media, theatre and music performance applications. The facility includes audio and video reinforcement systems as well as audio and video recording and broadcast capabilities. Crestron Control panels control all A/V in the room and are located at the lower and upper level of the auditorium, at the mobile lectern and in the auditorium control room. The package includes an S-Video remote controlled camera, projection screen, LCD video projection, distributed speaker system, wired and wireless microphones, a front of house/control room with a full-featured mixing console, an intercom system, and a wireless ADA hearing assist system.

Audio Recording Studios Design

The digital audio production studio and mix suite provides a totally digital recording and mixing environment equipped with a Pro Tools HD System from DigiDesign. The package includes software as well as hardware in a 5.1 surround environment. The control room features a DigiDesign ProControl  surface, 24 channels of mic inputs, a full selection of analog processing gear, a 5.1 surround monitoring with active speaker system, and a remote video camera monitoring system linked between the control room, isolation booth and main studio. The isolation booth features 8 mic inputs plus headphone monitoring and a video camera linked to the control room. The main studio has 24 mic inputs plus headphone monitoring and video camera, as well as an assortment of microphones. All Pro Tools workstations share a centralized data storage fibre network. Tie lines connect the video studio and audio control room.   

Video Production Studio Design

The video production studio and mix labs are equipped to provide professional level video production. The television and video production studio and control room includes digital video editing stations and post-production equipment. The production studio includes cameras, a production switcher, router and video disk recorder in SDI format. The monitor wall in the control room includes large format plasma screen, traditional monitoring and operator positions. All video and audio signals pass through a matrix router. The engineering section resides behind the monitor wall and consists of several racks including patching, routing, switching, video recorders and tape operator equipment. A Videotek VTM-150 is also included. The video production facilities also include sound monitoring, production intercom, an assortment of microphones, analog audio mixing console, video labs and a storage network.
